I’m going to tell you a little story about the artist behind this picture. She very lovingly said “Miss Jodi, I made this for you.” It sure makes my heart soar to be in this space in my life. She’s had more heartache and heartbreak than any human should ever have to go through. I thought I would never see her or know her, and then she and her sister were suddenly in front of me again to love on.
It’s always amazing to me how God circles things back around. This sweet little sunshine, after all the heartbreak she’s endured, is finally settling into her new home. Everyone has seen her and her behaviors, yet the language of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® tells us “there is always a need behind a behavior”. Her new family has seen that, and she is now placed with loving parents who see the sweet little girl instead of just her behaviors.
But here’s the thing—the last two weeks have been quite the shake-up for this family, as they have now discovered she has issues with blood sugar and has seizures that she has to have additional testing for.
You never know what battle someone is facing; just because you can’t see the disability doesn’t mean it’s not there. Behaviors are a sign that something deeper is going on inside a beautiful soul.
