So, I have a new friend and sister in Christ named Dori. It was truly through a series of divine encounters that our paths crossed.
There is a story in the Old Testament about Jonathan and David and the deep bond their souls shared. It was a profound, intense, godly love. I would have to say that God is giving me something similar in my friendship with Dori. After spending so much of this season feeling separated and isolated, I know now that God was using it to teach me how to know Him, hear His voice, and recognize His whisper. Dori is a pastor in Houston, and she recently shared with me a revelation the Holy Spirit gave her. It was regarding the story of the widow who gave her last two coins. She gave away everything, all her protection, all her provision, anything that felt consistent, predictable, and stable. She surrendered it all and placed it into the Father’s hands, trusting Him completely to care for her.Right after those verses, Jesus talks about the end of the age. In other words, how will you conduct yourself when everything is taken away? Will your character still reflect Christ within you?
In this season, there has been a growing awareness of self-protection. I developed ways of protecting myself in order to survive the lives I found myself in. But ultimately, the Father has asked for full surrender, even surrendering my self-protection and fully trusting that He is holding us. There comes a moment when we must surrender the things we believe matter most: stability, predictability, and consistency. In that place of complete trust, we discover that He has been our true security all along.
“Jesus observed all the wealthy coming into the temple courts wanting to be noticed as they came with their offerings. He noticed a very poor widow who dropped two small copper coins in the offering box. “Listen to me,” he said. “This poor widow has given a larger offering than any of the wealthy. For the rich only gave out of their surplus, but she sacrificed out of her poverty and gave to God all that she had to live on.””
